How much do Meta headsets cost now?
Starting April 19, 2026, Meta is applying a price increase across its entire Quest lineup. These are the new prices:
- Quest 3S 128GB: $359 (previously $299)
- Quest 3S 256GB: $469 (previously $399)
- Quest 3 512GB: $619 (previously $499)
The most significant increase falls on the Quest 3, which goes from $499 to $619. Refurbished units are also getting a price bump.
Why is Meta raising prices?
According to Meta, the main reason is the rising cost of components, particularly RAM chips. The company states that global demand for chips destined for artificial intelligence data centers has created a shortage affecting virtually every consumer electronics category, including virtual reality headsets.
In an official statement, Meta said:
"The increase in the price of critical components, especially memory chips, is impacting almost every consumer electronics category, including virtual reality. To continue delivering the hardware, software, and support quality you expect from the Quest platform, we need to adjust prices."
Notably, this RAM shortage will not affect Meta's smart glasses (Ray-Ban Meta), at least for now, according to a company spokesperson.
What does this mean for you?
If you were considering buying a Quest 3 or Quest 3S, the price increase changes the landscape. With the Quest 3 jumping from $500 to $619 and the Quest 3S approaching $359, the gap with alternatives like the Quest 3S as an entry-level option narrows.
That said, existing Quest headset owners are not left out: Meta has confirmed that accessories and add-ons (chargers, straps, cases) will not see price increases for now.
In any case, Quest headsets remain the most accessible way to get into virtual reality. And if you're looking to enhance your headset experience, options like the Air Cover for Meta Quest 3 are designed for longer sessions and greater comfort.
